Soft Top is a diptych from the ongoing Wipeout Series, a body of work exploring the disorienting and transformative moments beneath the ocean’s surface during a surfing wipeout. These compositions reflect a sense of mental calm and composure amidst chaos—metaphors for the uncertainty and powerlessness we all encounter in life.

The color palette draws inspiration from the iconic Wavestorm surfboard—known as a “soft top”—a familiar sight in lineups across Hawai‘i and beyond. Associated with both beginners and seasoned surfers, the soft top represents courage, humility, and the willingness to wipe out and try again.

Soft Top invites the viewer to embrace the beauty of falling, starting over, and riding the wave—no matter what.
