See You In The Water – The Story Behind the Screen Print

"See You In The Water" is more than just a casual phrase—it’s a greeting and a promise passed between surfers on land, with the unspoken understanding that they’ll reconnect during the next swell. This small exchange carries a deep sense of community and shared rhythm, and it’s exactly what inspired me to create this piece.

The idea for the design came during a stretch of consistent surf. I kept hearing the phrase out in the lineup and on the beach, and it started to take on layers of meaning.

When we surf, swim, or simply float, there’s a shift that happens—an entry into flow state. There’s a presence required by the ocean, a mindfulness that clears space in our heads. "See You In The Water" became a mantra of sorts, a reminder that the ocean is where we meet others, but also where we meet ourselves.

This print—now available as both a shirt and poster—intersects with all four themes of the Blue Mind philosophy by Dr. Wallace J. Nichols: meditation, movement, community, and spiritual connection. Each time I pull a new print, I think about those themes and how the water continues to ground and guide so many of us.

Whether it ends up on your wall or your back, I hope this piece serves as a reminder to return to the water, to yourself, and to that unspoken bond we share and the sea.
